Teacher Education Application Procedure

Admission to the College of Education and Human Services does not guarantee admission to the Teacher Education Program. Admission to the Teacher Education Program must be pursued by students seeking state certification. Listed below are the specific requirements for admission. Application packets and information are also available in the Office of Teacher Education, Wham Building 135.

If you want to begin your professional course work in a fall semester, you must be admitted to the TEP the preceding spring semester.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

  • For Spring Admission: September 1st or previous business day
  • For Fall Admission: February 1st or previous business day
  • For Fall Admission: June 1st or previous business day

A student is eligible to make formal application for admission to the Teacher Education Program when the following criteria have been met:

  • A minimum of 30 semester hours of completed college work;
  • Passing score on the Illinois Basic Skills test;
  • An overall grade point average of 2.75 or better (4.0 scale);
  • Completion of English 101, and English 102 and Education 210 or their equivalents, with a grade of "C" or better, (Education 210 or equivalent NOT required for students whose first College semester prior to Fall 2006);
  • Two recommendations from college/university faculty;
  • Special Education majors must provide documentation of one-hundred (100) clock hours of experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Satisfactory fingerprint-based criminal background check and receipt from Accurate Biometrics;
  • A copy of the official score sheet showing a passing score on the Illinois Basic Skills Test;
